Cowboy Goes Home!

Serenade says a teary farewell to Cowboy, Serenade Lasso's the Moon. Cowboy was placed when he was young, but the home just didnt fit and some of the things that he experienced while he was there had a huge impact on his life. He is one of the most lovable papillons we have had, but he was quite shy.

His new family knows of his past and have had dogs with his personality before and were looking forward to the arrival of their furbaby. Upon arrival, Cowboy was a little spooked, but quickly returned to giving his trademark kisses and "Boofs."

We welcome the Gregory's to the Serenade Family and send hugs and butterfly kisses their way.

Surgery Success!

I heard back from Maddie's surgeon today and surgery was a wonderful success!

Maddie did fine with the anesthesia and the doctor was able to maneuver the bones into place without having to cut into her leg. This will allow her to heal much faster and lowers the risk of infection.

Maddie woke up without trouble and had a big lunch! She isnt moving much as her bandages are quite large today, but they will come off tomorrow and hopefully she will start using the leg within the next day or so!

Maddie will be comming home on Monday evening and if all goes well, she may have the fixator removed in as early as 4 weeks!

Now all we have to do is hope for quick healing, no infection, and a speedy recovery!

Surgery Postponed...

Well, I had hoped to post news of a successful surgery today, but instead the surgey has been moved to tomorrow.. Better than a bad surgery I supose!

Shortly after we dropped Maddie off at the surgeon's office last night, another dog was rushed in as an emergency. He had been attacked by a larger dog and was considered a higher priority because of the critical nature of his wounds.

Maddie is doing fine.. she has a comfy bed, all her toys, and a blanket that smells like everyone back home! So once more.. we wait!

Prayers for Maddie

Praying Paws for Maddie

Last week was terrible. We were back and forth to so many vets, always on the phone, and emailing x-rays to anyone who would look at them trying to decide what would be best for Maddison.

After five grueling days, we decided that the external fixator would be the best bet for Maddie and would give her the fastest recovery and the best chance of saving her lovely gait so once this is all said and done, she can continue on to her championship.

We just got home from the six hour drive to take Maddie to see her surgeon. Dr. McDonald was always there to answer any questions we may have had during the last week and he has gone above and beyond to help us do what is right by Maddie.

Maddison's surgery is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon (Monday pm), but Maddie will stay at the hospital until the evening of the 26th. Thank you all who have sent thoughts and prayers our way or to those who have voiced concern over our little girl. Please continue to keep her in your prayers this week as we pray for the steady and capable hands of the Dr. and for her safe and speedy recovery afterwards!

We will post news of the surgery after we receive it tomorrow, and will keep you updated throughout the process. Blessings!

Maddie's Bad Day

This morning, everything started as usual. Get up, let the dogs out.. and so on. As everyone was going off the porch, down the stairs, Maddie screamed. I was right behind them but she took off into the yard until I called her back and she came running with her little leg just dangling in the air. As soon as I saw it, I knew it was broken. A couple quick calls and off the the vet we go.. As soon as the vet saw her, he went for the pain meds. I was expecting pain meds- he flat knocked her out! She headed back for xrays and here is what we saw:

Yep. I'd call that a break alright. Radius and ulna both broke straight in two. Poor baby. We had her leg splinted and took home some pain meds as it would be a few days before we could get in for surgery, and that would give us time to think on which surgery we should have done at all.

As for now.. lots of rest and relaxation..
I guess she will just have to deal with being spoiled!

I will keep the blog updated with Maddie's progress, so please check back often or feel free to email if I take too long!
